RE: NEW HOUSING POLICY

This memorandum is going out to the public of Rainy River First Nations, to inform all that a New Housing Policy has been adopted, and will take effect immediately.

Please read through these documents, to be fully informed. These will also be posted on our Website, as early as next week or at the latest two weeks from today. If you haven't received your copy, there will be a copies available at the Housing Office.

If you have a concern about your housing situation or any of the items pertaining to the Housing Policy, you must contact the Housing Coordinator, and your concerns will be addressed as they come in.

The Housing Committee is also being restructured at this time, but housing business will continue, as usual.

NOTICE TO BAND MEMBERS
THERE ARE VACANCIES ON THE HOUSING COMMITTEE
THAT NEEDS TO BE FILLED, IMMEDIATELY.

>THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIREMENTS OF COMMITTEE MEMBERS:

The Housing Committee shall operate under the direction of Chief and Council and the Rainy River First Nations Housing Policy and Terms of Reference. The Housing Committee is responsible for the development and recommendations (to the whole of Chief and Council) on all policy implementation and changes, including, but not limited to, housing allocations, membership &/or make-up of the Housing Committee. Any member can serve notice to the community, the Housing Committee, and the Council of their desire to serve additional terms at the completion of their current term. Committee members are expected at all times to act in the best interest of the Rainy River First Nations community as a whole.

The Housing Committee members are people who, regardless of their occupation, are genuinely interested in the housing needs of the local community, and are willing to work on a volunteer basis to see those needs of the local community, and are willing to work on a volunteer basis to see those needs met. However, any band member who wishes to be considered as a member of the Housing Committee should NOT be in a situation of owing rental &/or housing payment arrears to the band. Committee members and/or potential committee members must have, themselves, good standing regarding housing and/or rental payments, as an example to others.

A Housing Committee member must be a band member living on or off, the Rainy River First Nations who is interested in working towards the goals of the Rainy River First Nations Housing Policy and Terms of Reference. A Housing Committee Member (particularly, one who is a tenant, applicant, or contractor in a project) MUST declare any conflicts of interest and remove themselves from participating in any voting, especially where immediate family members are concerned or where any benefits might be accrued to the member in any specific instances.

A Housing Committee members shall agree, in writing, to follow and adhere to Oaths of Confidentiality, Conflict of Interest Guidelines and Code of Ethics Guidelines and Code of Conduct. Any breaches shall be subject to review by the Housing Committee, (excluding the member(s) in breach), and Chief and Council and may result in subsequent dismissal from the Housing Committee.

Committee members are required to attend ALL meetings of the Housing Committee, unless for reasons acceptable to the chairperson, or, in his or her absence, the co-chairperson, whom the member(s) will notify of any consecutive meetings without notice(s) &/or reason(s) shall be automatically dismissed as a member of the committee.

If you would like to have your name listed, as an applicant for the Housing Committee, send in your information: Name, Address, Home telephone number, Employment telephone number, and enclose a paragraph stating why you would like to be on the Housing Committee

There will be No Deadline, until we have a complete housing committee. Application letters to be stamped and recorded by the receptionist at the Main Band Office.

HOUSING CALL TO NEW APPLICANTS

FOR SENIOR'S COMPLEX - 1 BEDROOM.

In order to be accepted for any of these eight units

Applicants must submit all pertinent information regarding their:

• present living conditions - location
• if a couple - state names and information
• income information - OAS, Retirement benefits, Health Insurance Benefits, Disability Benefits...etc.
• Are there any kind of arrears owing to the First Nations, by the applicant or co-applicant.
• Rent references (if any)

Pre-requisites:

• All tenants must be older that 60 years of age, or with a physical disability confirmed by family physician .
• Must be independent
• No children, or grandchildren allowed to reside in units
• Zero tolerance for alcohol or illicit drugs on the premises
• Rental Agreement will be placed in tenants name and co-applicant (spouse)

All this information will be reviewed and checked. Anyone found to be giving false information will be disqualified from this Application and Approval Procedure.

Dead line for submissions: No Deadline Only applicants chosen, will be contacted by the Housing Coordinator.
